Chapter 5
I walked over slowly, keeping my tone calm.
“Angela, it was clearly you who begged me to perform the surgery for you. And afterward, it was you who couldn’t control yourself and slept with someone else. Why are you blaming me for that? To harm me, you even made this voodoo bell.”
When I first met Angela, I was sincere with her.
I sponsored her to go to school, and whenever there was something delicious or fun, I always thought of her.
It was only because she was Duncan’s childhood sweetheart and still young.
But she was determined to break Duncan and me apart, and even wanted to kill me.
I closed my eyes slightly, my gaze filled with disappointment.
The young woman curled her lips, her eyes suppressing a terrifying hatred.
“Valerie, stop being hypocritical. If you hadn’t shown up, I would be the one with Duncan. It’s all your fault. You stole his love. I hate you!
“Duncan will only become mine once I kill you!”
With that, her eyes turned cold and fierce.
She pulled out a dagger that glinted with a cold light.
She aimed it at my heart and screamed, “Die!”
I was scared and kept stepping back.
Just as she was about to stab me, Zachary had already clenched the tip of the knife in his palm.
Beads of blood seeped through his fingers, like broken pomegranate seeds, dripping onto the floor.
Yet he acted as if he felt no pain, his other hand still pinning Angela down.

A low, hoarse sound rumbled in his throat.
“Anyone who tries to hurt my sister must die.”
In the struggle, my brother used that fruit knife to slash Angela’s face.
Angela let out a shrill scream immediately.
“My face…”
She was always obsessed with her beauty.
In the past, she often asked me to buy skin care products and cosmetics for her, and I gave her whatever she wanted.
“My face is ruined. Duncan won’t like me anymore. I don’t want this.”
Her hands were shaking violently. She covered her face; her eyes were filled with fear.
I looked at my brother’s wound and quickly rummaged through the first–aid kit. The moment I pulled out the gauze and wrapped it around his hand, the man let out a muffled groan. Only then did I realize I had been too forceful. I hurriedly loosened the gauze. But tears fell first, dropping onto his bandaged hand.
“Zachary, does it hurt a lot?”
My voice trembled.
My brother smiled, raised his hand to wipe my tears, and said, “This little injury is nothing.”

On this day, everyone who had bullied me was beaten up, and each had a bone broken.
Duncan was no exception.
Inside the abandoned factory, I sat on a bench, watching coldly as Kyler pummeled him.
Kyler grabbed his ankle, twisted it sharply. Another crisp crack echoed, followed by a heart- wrenching scream.
Duncan’s eyes reddened as he knelt before me.
“Honey, let me go. After all these years of marriage, don’t you care at all? You used to hate seeing me hurt the most. Have you forgotten all that?”

I took a deep breath, gritting my teeth as my face darkened.
His words stirred no ripple in my heart.
I only had hatred toward him!
