1288 Vouchers
When he saw me, Sebastian jerked his hand from Clara’s and rushed toward me.
His eyes were bloodshot, raw pain written across them.
“Aurora, I’ve been up all night thinking. I told myself I didn’t have feelings for you, or maybe I was hiding from them. But when you married someone else, I realized I was wrong. I love you. I’ve loved you more than I ever thought pos- sible.”
I leaned into Dewayne’s arms.
“So?”
A spark flared in Sebastian’s eyes.
“So… give me one more chance, okay? I’ll treat you right this time. I swear I won’t hurt you again.”
“But I’m married.”
I cut him off, hoping he’d stop, but he pressed on, desperate.
“Leave him. I’ll wait. I don’t mind that you’re married now. The day you’re free, we start our real life together.”
How could he say something so crazy out loud?
Before I could even get a word out, Dewayne lost it. He swung one hard punch into Sebastian’s face.
“Who the hell do you think you are, trying to steal my wife right in front of me?! Think I’m invisible?!”
Sebastian stumbled, barely able to catch his footing, when Dewayne had him on the ground, punching him several
more times.
When he finally snapped back, he grabbed Dewayne’s collar and snarled, “She was supposed to be mine, and you swooped in while things were messy! She doesn’t love you. It’s me she wants! You really think she married you be- cause she wanted to? She was just pissed at me!”
Those words stunned Dewayne for a second, long enough to catch a fist in the face.
I rushed in and yanked them apart.
I gently touched the red mark on Dewayne’s lip with my fingertip and asked worriedly, “You okay?”
He nodded, sounding kind of down. “Yep.”
I turned to Sebastian, voice flat.
“You’re wrong. I don’t love you, and I didn’t marry him on a whim. I’m his wife now, and that’s not changing.”

Sebastian was stung by my words. He roared, “You’re lying! I don’t believe a damn word!”
“Believe what you want. Touch my husband again and you’ll regret it.”
With that, I pulled Dewayne inside.
Once the door was shut, Clara stepped out of the shadows.
Outside, the yelling started again.
